CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. A collaborative time to raise awareness and empower people across the nation to play a role in ensuring happy, healthy childhoods for all children. Our efforts to raise awareness, encourage engagement, and impact positive change this year are as vital as ever.

2024 Pinwheel Gardens

There are over 200+ Pinwheel Gardens around Elkhart County, representing our community’s shared commitment to keeping children safe and helping them thrive. Pinwheels represent the joys of childhood and the positive cycles of hope and love. Thank you to the Community Foundation of Elkhart County for sponsoring this year’s pinwheel gardens. View the Pinwheel Garden Gallery from 2023 below.

2024 Rally for Kids

Each year, community leaders gather for the Rally for Kids to show their commitment to prevent child abuse. Rally for Kids kicks-off Child Abuse Prevention Month during the month of April. CAPS is the leading organization in preventing child abuse in Elkhart County through education, training, and family support. View Rally for Kids photos below.

2024 Safe Adult Art Gallery

Over 130 Children throughout Elkhart County submitted artwork of their Safe Adult in 2024. A Safe Adult is a term created by the Monique Burr Foundation (MBF), a nationally recognized prevention program for child abuse, neglect, and bullying. MBF states ‘a safe adult is someone accountable, respects your boundaries, and doesn’t ask you to keep secrets from others. Speaking to a safe adult can help you feel listened to and decide on the next steps. There are many ways to identify a safe adult in your life’.

CAPS constructed a gallery to show our county of parents, grandparents, teachers, coaches, and other community members our children trust to report to. View photos of the physical gallery and copies of children’s artwork below.

PLANT A PINWHEEL GARDEN

Pinwheels are the national symbol for child abuse prevention. They symbolize a happy, healthy childhood. These gardens can help remind ourselves and the community about our commitment to prevent child abuse. Sponsor a Pinwheel Garden at your business to show your support to stop child abuse in our community.
