On Wed. morning, July 25, fourteen moms exercised their artistic talents during a special Coffee and Canvas hosted by Healthy Families. Each attendee received the opportunity to relax while learning how to create a beautiful whimsical painting. Free childcare was provided, located just across the hall from the class, so no one had to worry about having trustworthy childcare. Food and drinks were also offered, free of charge.
This event was made possible through a grant the department received from The Little Big Idea Grant. Healthy Families Supervisor Paula Parker applied for the grant, stating that the Coffee and Canvas would be an opportunity many of their clients would not be able to afford. It serves as a great way to connect, encourage and de-stress busy moms. She also emphasized that “art (is an) outlet that can make an impact on a person’s life.”
“So many moms walked out of (the class) saying, ‘I didn’t know I could do that,'” said Parker. “And that was worth it to me.”
